Astrophotography refers to taking photos of the night sky and of astronomical objects. This type of photography presents a real challenge: it requires specific knowledge, planning, patience and persistence (especially during a cold night). But everyone will agree that the effort is worth it – the results are astonishing.

Astrophotography is a fascinating blend of art and science. It’s an admirable endeavor to capture the unimaginable vastness, the mesmerizing richness and the perpetual mystery of the heavens.

Recently I was contacted by the Skopje Astronomical Society, a citizens association of astronomy lovers. It was established in 1998 with the objectives of promoting astronomy as a science and of uniting all lovers of astronomy. They showed me their members’ photos – and I was amazed. I’ve selected several of those shots for this post; for more photos, as well as more info on this great association, check out its Facebook page.
